Never Keep Scores When Giving

Everyone likes to receive. Only few give. Sad but true. Not sure if Oprah Winfrey ever tested her audiences but if she did it would be like this, “Everyone could take home a brand new iPad or give 8 hrs of their time to volunteer today!” Chances are most will pick the iPad.

In any relationship, whether it is in business or personal, there’s always someone constantly reaching out, giving advice, buying lunch, doing favors or going the extra mile with no hint of any expectations. That’s how it should be but I add that if the other person doesn’t appreciate it, doesn’t give to others or takes you for granted then you should evaluate the relationship.

Don’t stop ever and wait to receive that’s disaster waiting to happen. In business you might hear the saying. “What have you done for me lately?”
In my opinion there are extremely selfish people and you should watch what you give because if you suddenly find yourself in need, they will be first to distance themselves from you because you no longer serve their need. You’ve got to just plant your seeds for growth by giving and nurturing reasonably without expecting it will spawn fruits.

There are no limits once I became Fearless - Manny of GreatestFounders™

In the past few years, my understanding of what it means to be a fearless individual as been reinforced. I believe I’ve grown a set of balls that can make several bulls envious. I say this because when I was much younger, I got by okay with no-purpose-balls, the ones which I believed were all I could have and they hung soooo f&$##% mediocre. And FYI, having bull size balls doesn’t make it any easier to get any woman.

The above title might not mean anything. Reread it slowly then repeat it to yourself for the next 3 years. That’s one statement I kept during some tough times in my life.

"There are no limits once I became Fearless"

Would you agree with me that 100% of the people on earth will aspire to be significant in their lifetime? Only a small percentage of people know how to or will mold themselves in the image of their predecessors. Bill Gates likely learned something from John Rockefeller. Chris Rock likely learned something from Bill Crosby. Lady Gaga copies from Madonna.

Why did they do this? Because they wanted to be better and weren’t going to let fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of dying, fear of public speaking, fear of love, fear of hate, fear of death, fear of living, fear of temptation, fear of judgment, fear of labels, or fear of barriers stop them from achieving greatness.

I personally just got tired of settling for mediocre. I eventually realized I had greatness in me, I could contribute to society and my personal growth positively while facing and overcoming obstacles. In many ways, I have and I believe with continuous support of a greater power I will be fearless.

Startups & Sales Issue: Attracting & Compensation of Sales Person

I was fortunate to attend a business startup meeting in Downtown Toronto in the financial district. It was a great experience to see the importance of entrepreneurs helping each other even when their competition was in the room. I was asked for my expertise on sales and marketing in relations to startup businesses. Some of the audience members were not sure how to attract and compensate sales people.

My advice to them was to think about their business from the perspective of a VC because in some ways sales people are like VC. They are looking at the leaders, products, training, culture, vision, customers, connection, competitive advantages, process, ROI, and so forth of a company.

When it comes to compensation, for startups with no money, you can always negotiate with the sales rep. The sales person is going to weigh the risk-to-benefit both short term and long term. My suggestion, the riskier the opportunity the more sales people should be compensated, also considering experience, and product sales cycle. It can consist of living wage salary and a significant commission percentage or stocks and significant commission percentage. In addition, do not treat your future sales rep like pawns, dispose of when you no longer need them because there are a few who will retaliate in a way that will drastically damage your business.

For you guys who know nothing about selling or sales process. If you contact me, I’ll be glad to put together a quick, simple guide, tactics which can be used by beginners or business owners. I also recommend reading about Mary Kay Cosmetics, and IBM or simply work for a company looking for sales people on a PT basis. There’s no better way to build character then taking a sales job.

Also note that the old ways of selling is gracefully dying. There was a time when consumers depended on sales people to educate them now the power as shifted. Today’s selling is more about: partnership, advice, assistant, customization, retention, and relationships.
